At just 14, Boluwatife Balogun — now known as Champz — is proving talent runs deep. His debut EP Champion’s Arrival didn’t just chart; it conquered, soaring to No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria within hours and announcing a new generation of African sound and self-made confidence.
Boluwatife Balogun, the 14-year-old son of Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, has rewritten the record books as Champz, becoming the youngest artist ever to top Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Albums chart.
His debut project, Champion’s Arrival, climbed to No. 1 just five hours after its November 11 release, amassing over one million streams and charting in 28 countries — peaking at No. 71 on Apple Music UK.
The five-track EP blends Afrobeats and UK grime in a bold showcase of Champz’s solo artistry. Notably, it features no guest appearances — a deliberate choice that underscores his independence.
The standout single “Champion Sound” captures his confidence with the lyric, “Shout-out to the OGs in the game, but it’s time to pass on the baton to champion.” On “Superstar,” he opens up about teenage heartbreak and ambition, signaling artistic maturity well beyond his age.
Produced by a team of emerging Nigerian beatmakers, the EP reinforces Champz’s insistence on writing his own material—a point that’s earned industry respect despite ongoing discourse about his famous lineage. Critics and fans alike have praised his vocal control and raw authenticity. “He really rap! I was amazed,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter), referencing the track “Grind.” “He really speaks from his own perspective.”
Wizkid publicly celebrated his son’s success, telling local media, “We love it, man — he’s my kid, you know!” Insiders say the global star has been supportive but hands-off, pushing Champz to carve out his unique sound rather than rely on family fame.

Music analysts view the young artist’s achievement as symbolic of a broader generational shift in Afrobeats — where legacy meets evolution. Nigeria’s new wave of second-generation musicians is finding international audiences faster than ever before, propelled by streaming platforms and cross-continental influences.
Looking ahead, industry watchers anticipate whether Champz can sustain his early momentum. Two songs from Champion’s Arrival — “Champion Sound” and “Champion Montana” — have already cracked Nigeria’s Top 60 singles. Wizkid has hinted at a possible father-son collaboration, but maintains that his son’s success must be his own.
