Lagos Fashion Week 2025: “City of Cities” Celebrates African Style and Innovation

From rhythmic drumbeats to runway brilliance, Lagos Fashion Week 2025 turned the city into Africa’s style capital. With a “City of Cities” theme, the event celebrated creativity, sustainability, and the unstoppable rhythm of Lagos — a true tribute to Africa’s fashion evolution.

The 15th edition of Lagos Fashion Week took center stage under the vibrant theme “City of Cities – Our Rhythm, Our Runway,” transforming Nigeria’s commercial capital into a pulsating showcase of African creativity, innovation, and resilience. Held at the Federal Palace Hotel over four days, the event was a dazzling fusion of high fashion, live performances, and community-driven collaborations that reaffirmed Lagos as the beating heart of African style.

This year’s theme paid homage to the unique tempo and energy that define Lagos. The closing Heineken showcase, curated by founder Omoyemi Akerele, was a love letter to the city — opening with traditional drumming and praise songs that set the tone for a celebration of Lagos’s movement, rhythm, and artistry.

Designers, including Atafo, Nkwo, Onalaja, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Orange Culture, Bridget Awosika, Abiola Olusola, and FIA Factory, presented a 46-look collection that fused heritage with innovation. From raffia and beads to sequins and metallics, every piece captured the city’s fearless creativity and the continent’s evolving aesthetic.

Founder Omoyemi Akerele described Lagos Fashion Week as “a celebration of the city’s beauty, grit, and authenticity — and its place as a beacon for African creativity everywhere.”

Sandra Amachree of Nigerian Breweries added, “Fashion is a force for expression, progress, and identity. This year, we’ve proven again that the future of fashion is fearless, innovative, and undoubtedly African.”

Buyers and fashion enthusiasts from Ghana, South Africa, and France commended the event’s growing global relevance. The African Union’s creative economy envoy called it “a model of how African cities can lead through cultural power.”

Since its founding in 2011, Lagos Fashion Week has evolved into one of the continent’s most influential fashion events, driving conversations around sustainability, local manufacturing, and creative empowerment.

This year continued that mission, featuring artisan markets, sustainable fashion labs, and upcycling exhibitions that championed responsible production and community development.

The event also reinforced Africa’s role in the global fashion conversation — where local narratives meet international recognition. Lagos’s ability to merge creativity with commerce highlights how African cities are redefining global trends from the ground up.

Organizers confirmed that Lagos Fashion Week 2026 will expand its focus on cross-continental partnerships and digital fashion innovation. Meanwhile, several designers are set to showcase at the upcoming Paris and Johannesburg Fashion Weeks, signaling Africa’s growing footprint on the world stage.
