History in the making: Hilda Baci begins her ambitious quest to cook the world's largest pot of jollof rice in Lagos, aiming for her second world record.
Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has launched her ambitious attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest pot of jollof rice, cooking before over 20,000 spectators at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
The record-breaking attempt involves preparing jollof rice using 250 bags of rice in a custom-built pot measuring six meters in both width and height, with a capacity of 22,619 liters.
The event, branded as the "Gino Jollof Festival" in partnership with the seasoning company, had to be relocated from Muri Okunola Park due to overwhelming public interest.
Baci gained international recognition in 2023 for setting a world record with her 100-hour cooking marathon. Before cooking began, she personally cleaned the large pot.
"Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself," she shared on Instagram. "In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making."
The event began with spiritual blessings from Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Centre, followed by a touching moment where Baci prayed with her mother for divine strength and protection throughout the marathon cooking process.
Beyond the record attempt, the festival features food exhibitions, cultural showcases, live entertainment, and immersive experiences celebrating jollof rice as a symbol of Nigerian identity.
Baci emphasized that the event represents more than setting records—it's about showcasing Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.
"Despite the massive scale of the operation, the meal will be amazing and hygienic," Baci assured attendees, promising a record-breaking experience of Nigerian jollof on an unprecedented scale.
If successful, this would mark Baci's second Guinness World Record, further establishing her as a trailblazer in the global culinary scene following her breakthrough 100-hour cooking marathon two years ago.
Hilda Baci's latest world record attempt transforms Nigerian culinary tradition into an international spectacle. As thousands witness history in the making, the event demonstrates how local culture can captivate global audiences—one grain of rice at a time.
