Speaking on the achievement, Davido said, “Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard and participating in the Grammy Award process is a game-changer. Leaders in film, sport, and music, including Chioma Ude and Yvonne Chaka Chaka, joined fans in celebrating this achievement. Online, fans say, “Davido does it for the culture,” and regional media call the move a watershed for Afrobeats. Davido’s membership is widely seen as affirming Africa’s growing soft power in entertainment.
Davido’s inclusion follows his multiple Grammy nominations and comes as Afrobeats reshapes global streaming and pop music.
He will help nominate and vote for the 2026 Grammy Awards, with nominations announced on November 7 and voting starting on October 3. Analysts expect his presence to boost future African participation and push for fairer recognition of homegrown sounds.
