CAF Women's Player of the Year 2024: A Showcase of African Talent

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the finalists for the prestigious 2024 CAF Women's Player of the Year award, highlighting the incredible talent in women’s soccer across Africa. This year, five outstanding players are in the running, each having made a big impact with their clubs and national teams.


Barbra Banda (Zambia / Orlando Pride): The Zambian striker has had a remarkable year, scoring 17 goals in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and securing the NWSL title for Orlando Pride with a crucial goal in the championship match. Banda's impressive performances earned her the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year award.

Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi / Olympique Lyonnais): Chawinga demonstrated her scoring prowess by topping the goal-scoring charts in the French league last season. Temwa Chawinga (Malawi / Kansas City Current): Temwa emerged as the top scorer in the NWSL with an impressive 21 goals.

Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria / Paris FC): The talented goalkeeper was recognized as the best in France's top league. Nnadozie, who won the Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2023, is the sole Nigerian representative in this year's Player of the Year shortlist.

Sanaa Mssoudy (Morocco / AS FAR): Mssoudy was named the best player in the CAF Women's Champions League, despite her team AS FAR finishing as runners-up.

The winner will be announced at the CAF Awards ceremony scheduled for December 16, 2024, at the Palais des Congrès de Marrakech in Morocco. The awards cover the period from January to October 2024, recognizing excellence in women's football across Africa at both club and national team levels.

CAF has stated that the winners in each category will be selected through a comprehensive voting process involving the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, head coaches, and captains of Member Associations, as well as clubs participating in the group stages of interclub competitions.
