British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has confirmed that he is relocating to Dubai, saying the move reflects a broader trend of high-net-worth individuals leaving the United Kingdom, according to interviews reported by Reuters and the BBC.
Joshua said Dubai will become his main residence while he continues his professional boxing and business activities internationally. He told media outlets that financial planning and lifestyle considerations influenced the decision.
“Everyone’s leaving,” Joshua said during a recent interview cited by Reuters, referring to wealthy residents relocating from Britain to jurisdictions with different tax frameworks.
Joshua remains one of Britain’s most prominent athletes and a globally recognized boxing champion. The Olympic gold medalist won the super-heavyweight title at the 2012 London Games and later held unified world heavyweight championships during his professional career.
The BBC reported that Joshua has developed business interests outside boxing, including investments in sports, technology, and property. Dubai has become a preferred base for many international athletes and entrepreneurs due to its tax environment and global connectivity.
Financial analysts cited by Reuters say the United Kingdom has recently seen an increase in high-net-worth individuals relocating abroad amid tax reforms affecting wealthy residents.
Joshua’s move has drawn attention across Africa because the British-born fighter has Nigerian heritage and maintains strong ties with Nigerian fans and the broader African diaspora. His career has made him one of the most globally visible athletes connected to Africa.
